There are cases where a combatant only wants to wound, or maybe just nick the opponent, not kill them.
In combat the assume that the combatant(s) want to do as much damage as possible to each other, which may be the case in most situations. However there are cases where a combatant only wants to wound, or maybe just nick the opponent, not kill them.
Successes and Victory Points are supposed to represent how skillfully the task was performed. As such, when determining damage, it should be possible for a character to modify up or down the damage done by the number of VPs rolled.
As an example, Sir Harakal Hazat is in a gunfight, he has a Shoot of 6 and a Dexterity of 7. This gives him a Goal of 13. He takes a shot and rolls 10, a hit with 10 successes or 3 VPs. The gun he uses does a base damage of 5 points. If he wanted to kill his opponent he could then modify up the damage done by the amount of VPs rolled, giving 8 damage, or if he wanted only to scare his opponent, or possibly get under their shield, he could accent down, giving 2 damage.
This work well with the accenting rules as accenting down would represent a safe shot/strike, going for a large, easy to hit area, and accenting up would represent either aiming for a vital area (head or heart) or a non-vital, harder to hit area (hand, foot or just 'nicking' them), depending on which way they modify the damage.
